Genesis 28:15

a prayer... "Father God in heaven, be more real...no wait...be the ONLY real thing to these people as they go through this overwhelming time."

Father make us sensitive to Your heart and
Your leading

Your life
and
make us insensitive to the folly of this fallen world and fallen remnants in your people.

We expectantly wait for you to come as the ruling king, Messiah in our lives, but You are coming first at the Lamb of God!

Genesis 28:15 God you leave room for our choice, "wherever you go" while still totally surrounding us with Your sovereign love.

This is a time of preparing the ground, of breaking up the fallow ground,  Read Jeremiah 4:3 and its context and Hosea 10:12 and its context.

AW Pink on the sovereignty of God....   "Bible Prophecy and the Sovereignty of God go Hand in Hand which is one reason most "churches and Christians" no longer Study or believe Bible Prophecy.

The sovereignty of God is an expression that once was generally understood. It was a phrase commonly used in religious literature. It was a theme frequently expounded in the pulpit. It was a truth which brought comfort to many hearts and gave virility and stability to Christian character.

But today, to make mention of God's sovereignty is, in many quarters, to speak in an unknown tongue. Were we to announce from the average pulpit that the subject of our discourse would be the sovereignty of God, it would sound very much as though we had borrowed a phrase from one of the dead languages. Alas! that it should be so. Alas! that the doctrine which is the key to history, the interpreter of providence, the warp and woof of scripture, and the foundation of Christian theology should be so sadly neglected and so little understood.

The "Sovereignty of God." What do we mean by this expression? We mean the SUPREMACY of God, the KINGSHIP of God, the GODHOOD of God. To say that God is sovereign is to declare that GOD IS GOD!

To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is the Most High, "doing according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth, so that none can stay His hand or say unto Him what doest Thou? (Dan. 4:35), To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is the Almighty, the possessor of all power in heaven and earth so that none can defeat His counsels, thwart His purpose, nor resist His will (Psa. 115:3).

To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is "the governor among the nations" (Psa. 22:28), setting, up kingdoms, overthrowing empires, and determining the course of dynasties as pleases Him best. To say that God is sovereign is to declare that He is the "only potentate, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords" (I Tim. 6:15). Such is the God of the Bible."

Sovereignly, wonderfully, completely, irreversibly HIS! John 14:2 "In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?" ..... Simplicity

The heart of God is to have a people who reveal His heart to the world.  They are united by His love shed abroad in their hearts.  They have received mercy through the sacrificial love of God's Son.  They are now "in" Immanuel.  They work with zealous love from a place of rest and trust that cannot be shaken.  The things of this earth grow strangely dim.  They have seen the pattern of life lived by their Savior and they do not expect to be spared.  They have bowed to His choice of the Jew and Jerusalem and are grateful to be grafted into their vine accepted into their commonwealth.  "To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you."  Jude 1,2

Apostolic sending, a sent one beginnings

The last two "labels" on this post are where I gleaned this entire post from.  Nothing original, but just looking to the body to fill up where I am lacking.

The “I Am” sayings focus specifically on Jesus’ relationship to this world as our Savior. 

He is the Bread of Life who satisfies our nagging hunger for contentment (John 6:22-59). He is the Light of the World who frees us from walking in darkness (John 8:12-20). He is the Good Shepherd who keeps us from getting lost (John 10:11-31), and He is the Door through which God’s sheep enter into the safety of His refuge (John 10:1-10). He is the Resurrection and the Life so that, even though we die, yet shall we live (John 11:25). He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life so that we might, through Him, have access to God (John 14:6). He is the True Vine so that, when we are grafted into Him, His life flows continually to us as God Himself prunes and trains us to bear fruit (John 15:1). And He is eternal in His authority—at work in a Covenant of redemption that predates Abraham (John 8:31-59).

Arriving at a thorn-bush

A man spent years and years in the desert district tending sheep. Soberly aware of every phenomenon of the dire environment, he did not reflect much when one of those thorny bushes caught fire by spontaneous combustion. Normally those appearances were gone in seconds, this one allowed for an eyebrow to be lifted in the old man’s face.

His personal preferences and categories were sorely shaken as a voice commanded him to take his sandals off in the presence of the peculiar fire. As the very same fire expressed personality, being “the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”, a most holy reverence arose and was forever rooted in the depths of the herdsman Moses. The man standing on holy ground encountered the future, even eternity, in one single sequence of time – forever to be aware of a heavenly commission and the dimension of being sent.

The matter of sending produces meekness. “Moses was a very humble man, more so than any man on the face of the earth.” Apostolicity, the matter of being sent, is beyond anything else a matter of meekness. The sending involves representation, the sending means being an ambassador on heavenly terms – therefore Heaven must rule both mind and heart of the one professing this kind of comission. The categories and preferences of Heaven will cause ongoing perplexity and an obedience of the severest order.
Numbers 12:3

Another man, Isaiah, was introduced to the reality of sending by slightly other means. “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne…” Led to stand before the Holy One of Israel, his experience contained the same kind of shattering of earthly categories for the sake of a seeing according to eternal measures. Isaiah encountered the reality of sending in a most holy environment far beyond the conditions of the ordinary. But his sending from beyond was never to be expressed in alluring exaggerations for the sake of attracting an audience of itching ears. The Throne of Heaven was ever present in every word delivered by him, orally or by pen.
Isa 6:1

The environment of the sending is forever determined by fire and by holiness – and the result is always expressed in terms of brokenness, truth and humility. Having seen, having encountered this realm of reality produces men of caliber, men of trustworthiness. “Rulers will rule justly. Each will be like a shelter from the wind, a refuge from the rain, like streams of water in a dry land and the shade of a massive rock in an arid land.” Apostolicity offers this kind of environment. We need to reach out for that which lies beyond. The realm of sending offers holiness, tenderness, truth and humility. This is the Davidic reality, the apostolic environment, to be preached as the Kingdom of Heaven, which holds its gates open to men and women who are willing and daring to reach beyond, far beyond, that which is marked by earthliness.

The school of the Spirit

I have no idea what image comes to your mind when you think of the words "death to self", but let me tell you how it is playing out in my life.  It seems to me Satan is the head of the department of "death to self" in the "school of the Spirit".  He is, as always on a leash controlled by the President of the School of the Spirit.  Satan ends up a victim of his own devices because God promises the believer that He will work all things out for the good.  In his commentary on Isaiah, Victor Buksbazen, points out that, "evil carries within itself the seeds of its own destruction." (Isaiah 33:11)  Another famous Isaiah passage states,"If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me. Whoever assails you will fall because of you. 16"Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows the fire of coals And brings out a weapon for its work; And I have created the destroyer to ruin. 17"No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me," declares the LORD."  Isaiah 54:15-17  In addition we must keep in mind the context of Romans 8:28 and read all the way through to the end of the chapter seeing what things cannot separate us from His love, and over what things and spirits we are more than conquerors.  For when we take the time to read this list we will see the very things that God allows in a believers life, in order to bring us to the blessed goal, the end of our strength, (Deut. 32:36, Daniel 12:7) which then allows for the breakthrough of the veil that keeps us 'flesh bound' when we should be Spirit free!

So what does "death to self" look like, it looks like a pretty heavy disagreement between a husband and a wife, that causes the husband to rise up in anger.  It looks like being betrayed and hurt by one who "should" bring love and comfort.  David gives voice to these feelings in Psalm 55:12-14 "12 I would be able to take it if one who hates me were putting me to shame. I could hide from him. It is not one who hates me who has put himself up against me. 13 But it is you, a man like myself, one who has gone with me, my close friend. 14 We shared together. And we walked with the people in the house of God."  David does not see the whole picture yet because he wishes bad things on them, instead of seeing that they are only being used by God to reveal the "truth of his own condition", and that is always a good revelation, because from that starting point God can really do a beautiful work, giving us a proper foundation.  First, we know that He is our loving father and that He is the personal guarantee of all the promises to us so we are secure and without fear.  Second, we realize that this puts us in a place of eternal rest and trust, because the works of faith are already done, we just walk in them.  Third, the sovereign loving, merciful God allows blind sided crashes to come in to our lives and reveals to us that we are "not as strong as we think we are." (Rich Mullins)  Those crashes result in a release of the flesh that we thought was gone and we echo Paul's words , "Oh wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from this body of death?"  If it has been revealed to our hearts that you run to your FATHER, your Abba, when you are prodigal in every way, you will see Him doing the most amazing thing in all of scripture, running toward you with mercy that swallows up your words of repentance and totally restores you!

So in the end, death to self, and the breaking off of the flesh in the school of the Spirit, once again is a deeper revelation of His incredible mercy and the finished work of the cross that allows all glory to go to our resurrected Savior!  It may appear on the surface to be an attack, but it is just another opportunity to roll all of our trust and faith on to our ever deepening relationship with Immanuel!   (Most likely to be continued)

How then shall we live? and How do we do "church"?

So my flesh was a mess today.
Where was my place of rest and trust?

I went for a walk.

This is what I have so far, it is only a beginning.

So we learn our identity who we are in Christ, then we have to learn how to walk in the Spirit, even in the face of loud clanging worldly things, only if we are totally cut off from men either their praise or their hatred, cut off from it in such a way that it does not, cannot rock us from the place of eternal rest and trust. We are dead, dead, dead, and our life is hidden with Christ in God. We only do what we see the Father doing, we are not a “reactor.” We do not react to the people or very very loud situations around us, we are so dead in the flesh and so alive IN CHRIST that we are no longer living our life, but He is free to live His live through me. Finally!

Protestant lies

A brother posted a list of things Catholic's do that are wrong and had scriptures beside the examples to back them up, which spurred me to write this...

This will be long, so if you have the attention span of a dog in a room full of squirrels, just look away now. A list equally as long could be made for every protestant denomination and non-denomination currently in existence. Starting with John 17 the entire chapter is a cry from the heart of Jesus that His followers would be one, united in love, humbly working together. 99.999% of all the teeny tiny divisions in the Body of Christ have come about as a result of pride and a despicable (in God's eyes) unwillingness to humbly work within a broken system living and shining His light, the light of Christ in you, in such a way as to correct error, without the need to go down the block, build another building and proudly become the latest and greatest "righter of all wrongs". The KJV bible (I know I am prepared to duck) is used and defended to the death by the majority of protestant Christianity. The translation of "mansions" in John 14:2 is so horrible it is beyond belief. A simple word that means abode, or dwelling place where the emphasis is on WHO we are with in HIS place, now becomes my place, and not just my place, but a really big fancy my place. ( http://biblehub.com/greek/3438.htm ) The word "church" again brought to you by the exalted KJV scholars should have been basically a "gathering of people with something in common" the emphasis would have then been on what we have in common, which is, the LIfe of Christ. Ekklesia is just a Greek word with no greater meaning than a carpenter's union, or any other gathering around a common interest. Can you see how the importance of the word would then be, 'What is the common interest? What makes these people different? What is it that has changed and gotten hold of them?" A proper translation of the word would have put the emphasis on Christ but this horrible translation has put the emphasis on us, what we do or do not do, has become our mark and this leads again to pride. The fact is no one part of the body has all the truth and no one part of the body is all bad. I learn from Catholic teachers like Henri Nouwen and Brennan Manning and I learn from many protestant teachers. Pride is the main evil in the world. Pride and sloth prevent protestant 'churches' from following the pattern set forth by Paul that "each one bring a psalm a hymn a spiritual song" 1 Cor. 14:26. We are content to "let the Pastor do it." and we set up the inside of the building in such a way that indicates nothing is expected from the "audience". The message is simple we all start out "in Adam" and by the grace of God our eyes are opened and we are drawn to a place of being born again "in Christ" and then this life flows through us changing us and bringing glory to Him.
